Fashion Week In The Big Apple
New York Fashion Week!
New York Fashion Week (or Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week) has just ended and I, like many others, have been digesting all the beautiful Spring/Summer collections of the well-known and obscure designers.
For 7 whole days, runway shows were scheduled to run all day at the Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts and I've managed to view some of the designs real-time, thanks to @SydneSummer.
Without further ado, let's move on to the fun stuff. The following are some of the designers and their work that I took a special liking to. For a closer look at the outfits, just click on the pics. Enjoy!
Thakoon Panichgul
Thakoon Panichgul is an American Thai fashion designer whose style is an interesting mix of elegance and playfulness. I'm loving his spring/summer collection where he plays with nude coloured drapes and vibrant mixes of floral prints.
Interesting fact : US First Lady Michelle Obama wore one of his dresses for the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
BCBG Max Azria
BCBG (Bon Chic, Bon Genre), which means 'good style, good attitude', is one of my favourite designers at the moment. His designs are very body conscious and makes the most of the curves and slopes. Just look at the above mini party frocks. Simplicity with little adornment that relies on the drapes and texture to bring out the beauty of his designs.
I've added a few more of BCBG frocks below just for your viewing pleasure.
Jenny Packham
Jenny Packham is another designer that had caught my eye through @SydneSummer's tweets. Her collection features mainly metallics and nudes, however, there were some dresses that had a little splash of coloured prints. The first picture, being my favourite, had phoenix-like prints in burnt amber and cornflower blue, against a grey background. Most of the dresses have a nude coloured underlining to emphasize the 'see-through' quality.
As you can see, I'm a fan of colours. I love it when an outfit can incorporate bright and vibrant colours in a very tasteful way. I find wearing bright colours boost my mood, as if somehow, I also feel 'brighter'. I sure can't carry off canary yellow like Heidi Klum does, but I can experiment right?
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I did. I'll probably be doing a Part 2 because there are soooo much more beautiful designs that should have a mention here. So, watch out for it!
